
With over 25 years of experience in law enforcement, including the past 14 years as the state’s leading authority on maritime law enforcement, Cody Jones has an extensive understanding of the complexities of the maritime environment.
A native Texan, Cody Jones has spent over 25 years in law enforcement, with 14 of those dedicated to advancing maritime law enforcement and boating safety as part of the Texas Game Warden team. He has become a distinguished leader in the field, focusing on enhancing training, capabilities, and equipment for officers who patrol the waters daily.
Throughout his career, Jones has held numerous national leadership roles, including serving as the President of the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) during 2019-2020. His expertise also extends to his role on the U.S. Coast Guard’s Boating Safety Advisory Committee, where his work has directly contributed to key advancements in boating safety and education.
Jones’ leadership extends beyond his presidency at NASBLA, where he has held several key positions, such as:
- Chairing the NASBLA Preparedness and Response Committee, established in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.
- Serving multiple terms on the NASBLA Boat Operations and Training (BOAT) Advisory Board.
- Acting as an executive liaison to the NASBLA Law Enforcement Committee.
- Contributing as an active member of the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) Stakeholder Working Group.
- Vice-Chairing the NASBLA Engineering, Reporting and Analysis Committee.
- Serving as a subject matter expert on the FEMA Maritime Typing Working Group.
- Contributing to the creation of the National Water Safety Action Plan and the National Drowning Prevention Alliance’s (NDPA) Open/Natural Water Advisory Council.
Additionally, Jones is an integral member of the Texas Water Safety Coalition’s Leadership Team.
An alumnus of Sul Ross State University and the University of Virginia, Jones holds a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Management and a Master’s in Public Safety Administration. He is a graduate of the prestigious 282nd FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, where he honed his leadership skills among the world’s most elite law enforcement professionals.
